I'm sitting here drinking lukewarm black tea. No milk. No sugar. I hate exam week because it makes me do crazy things like that. Must conserve caffiene. Oh dear. I have a history exam tomorrow, Contemporary Global History. In some ways I really love history. I like to watch the patterns and see what leads to what and why. This history of the latter half of the twentieth century is especially good for watching patterns and cause and effect. I don't like history exams, though. It's those essay questions. History profs expect so much more clarity and explaining than English profs. I like to BS and give my own opinions and stuff. This doesn't work on history essays. Whew, finished the tea.

Oh, and considering CGH, I tend to think that half the essays I've written are BS with a few facts thrown in for good measure.

You will make it just listen to Radioted
Ah...Contemporary Global History...
I had that class with Dr. Green...I quickly became convinced that the man hated me. I gave him some of the best papers I've ever written, and he still only gave me a B (which I have still not figured out...given my test and paper scores for the class).
Jay Green...a knowledgable, but chemically unbalanced professor.
Posted by: steele at December 15, 2003 5:27 AMDr. Green really was one of the best profs I've ever had. He was one of few profs who really challenged me to be a college student, and one of hte few who gave me adequate preparation for grad school.
Jonathan, did you ever try TALKING to him? he's really a reasonable guy, and it's not like him to arbitrarily give B's. it's complicated grading papers. And I think more profs should have his high standards. I regularly got B's and C's in his classes, and that's okay.
Regarding BS-ing on history exams. It's quite simple. I didn't have time to study once for a CGH exam. One of hte essays was about the Boxer REbellion, which I never really got. But I figured it was a nationalist uprising against an imperialist power, and went by the formula for indigenous, nationalist uprisings, throw in some names you remember from class and there you go! A history essay! HOwever, this was for Dr. Kaufmann and not a history professor, so it worked for him...
Also regarding history exams. Make a timeline. It ALWAYS helps, especially if you're being over a 1000 year period at a time.
