"smack in the dab middle of the United States"

I'm in Nebraska this week. I came here to see my brother graduate. I now have a new found appreciation for college. I'm even glad all of those Quest and M. Ed. people are at the Covenant graduations, anything to make it more impersonal and less emotional. Oh dear, I had forgotten about high school graduations. The only one I had even been to was my own. People kept crying. I didn't know what to do. And it kept reminding me that my own high school experience, which I was sad to leave at the time, was so silly that I don't like to remember it anymore. Now, my brother had been at the same school all four years, and it was a much better school than the one I graduated from, but still . . . all those crying people . . . Well, they made me nervous. Now my brother will come to Covenant and learn to be hard and callous like me.

Nebraska is really quite pretty at this time of year. This is spring. It lasts about three weeks. But the corn fields are just turning green with the little six-inch corn stalks and the cotton wood trees are blowing white fluff everywhere and things are green and very agricultural looking. It's just like Country magazine. I'm enjoying my time here, but I am looking forward to getting back to my lovely green mountains soon.

linnea! i finally saw spirited away (sometimes with movies i feel like i did when i got one of those big cooler lunchboxes in 6th grade, two years after they were in style, and then was thoroughly embarrassed to even own one). but at least this movie is timeless, or should be. i especially loved the yobaba/zaneba (sp?) character. so much like alice in wonderland. and my cousin aaron, who's seen the movie like 9 times, though mr noface was an allusion to the CS Lewis character in The Great Divorce. (aaron also owns the soundtrack, btw). very interesting and spiritual, all of it.

i feel you on hs graduations. it's like looking at the senior pictures in your yearbook, only live.

oh to be a stink spirit!
tootles and love,
elk

Congratulations to Will!!

I know what you mean: Luisa and I bugged out of Mary's HS graduation after 2 hrs down and who knows how many more to go...we just couldn't take it any more, and felt sorry for Mary because she couldn't bug out with us. :)

Are you coming to her wedding? Maybe see ya there!

Linny, I wish you had been with me for the past couple of hours, because you would laugh. I was going to write about it here but I think I'll go write it somewhere else. Anyway. Just wait. One day you'll be a little pregnant mommy and emotions will hit you with a vengeance and you'll get videos of past graduations and sob through them. It will happen. I have cursed you so.
