they make me clean

My hands are covered with white dust from the gloves I wear in BEST and I'm getting it all over the mouse and keyboard in the Carter computer lab. It's been a long week of dealing with Student Life campers and my fellow workers and staff people and now I feel sick. This is my second summer working in BEST, Carter BEST. There's a kind of culture surrounding this whole summer BEST thing and I have fun with that. But they make me clean. They don't understand that it would be much nicer if I could just sit on the couch in the BEST office and read my book. I like playing with the chemicals.

Today we had a changeover. Doesn't that sound cool? It makes me thing of strange fantastic beast-men creatures. It's really quite boring. It just means one Student Life group leaves and we clean up their rooms and then we clean everything else on campus (except Mac and Founders which are taken care of by Founders BEST, they are our alter-ego, but I don't know who's Superman and who's Clark Kent). In the midst of this cleaning I found some notes written by the junior high girls who were staying here. The best part of summer BEST is the notes (and the money, but that's a given). I found one that started out as a prayer, it said "Father, I love you! You are so faithful and You've done so much for me and You have so much grace and love. You control everything, even things I don't understand. Could you tell Steven that I like him, or else give him the guts to . . ." Yeah . . . kind of makes you wonder what Steven would do if God told him that what's-her-name liked him. We found a really long letter, too, I'm going to put the whole thing on here because these things need to be published somewhere.

"Joshua-

"Well, I am sitting here thinking and thought I would give it one more try to beep you." (that's what those conservative baptists are calling it these days) "I tried a couple of times yesterday, I just wanted to know how your eyes were." (this is obviously more secret baptist code)

"I have had some time to think about us talking the other night. I was afraid to comment on too much because I'm not sure that what you say one day is what you still want or mean the next. Josh I believe in you, that you could be an unbelievable leader for your friends and family and for me. I guess that is why I want to take this chance with you." (?!?) "I want to help you, to encourage you and to be able to endure this together because your [sic] right about how you were when you were with me.

"I can tell you though that the phone calls will stop. I dont like to feel like your ignoring me and not understand why. More than that though, I wont feel like I am chasing you. There does come a point where I feel like I've triend to make it work and got nothing but talk. That's where I am, I want to know that you realy do want this in the long run.

"Andrea"

Oh the mad cliches of teenage drama. It's fun.

Ha! I love notes like that. But I don't find many now that I'm working down in the gym. You should read the one that we have on our fridge.

Rach, I have your old notes. I took them with me when I vanished post-graduation (and you thought my bulging suitcases held my personal effects). Someday you'll thank me when the royalties start pouring in...
I hope this is the right Rachel I'm threatening...
