Summer is here. It's been 98 forecast for 100 for the past two days. Everything seems to go slower in this heat. I was watching little sparrows hopping around with their mouths open yesterday, looking like they were trying hard to breathe. It didn't get this hot last year until July and I wasn't here then. I don't mind it much, though, at least in heat you can still go outside and do stuff (or I can, I realize that some people are different), unlike in cold when being outside is just miserable. And also, you don't have to wear many clothes. Always a plus. I've been riding my bike a lot lately, something that's fun to do on summer days. It makes me feel like I'm a kid again. I'm trying to drive as little as possible so riding to campus, riding to the library and hopefully also to the grocery store and stuff. It takes about twenty minutes max to get to the places I normally go in my car. It's just the hills . . . I live in the lowest part of the city so it's uphill anywhere, but it's always downhill coming back, so that's good.
I haven't been working on anything since I got back from Peru. I'm having summer-summer and getting up late, reading, watching movies, and I love it, it's fantastic. I think this is my calling. But today I have a meeting with my advisor (Friday meetings, woohoo) to plan out the summer. He wants a draft of my thesis by August, which ain't gonna happen, but I don't think I'll ruin his dreams this early. I'm thinking I'll have a draft by October. Considering the fact that he wanted a thesis proposal last August and didn't get one until February, I think we're doing pretty well here.
Oh, and the new Indiana Jones movie. Good fun, that's what I say. Why is everyone being so hard on it, it's not like the first three were screenplay masterpieces. I really enjoyed the endless crazy chases and the dry comments from Indiana Jones that always followed the craziest sequences. The anthills, the swinging through the jungle on vines, the driving down waterfalls. It was great. Also Cate Blanchett and her sword. Yes.
