whole milk

So I recently switched from regular store-brand whole milk to more natural whole milk and it makes such a difference! The regular stuff is so tasteless in comparison, the other milk is like drinking cream, so much good fat. I got Organic Valley milk at Publix and it was really good, but I decided to get Happy Cow milk today, because we have it at our store and it's cheaper than the Organic Valley, plus it's from South Carolina. We get it pretty much straight off the farm, so much better than Publix milk from who knows where.

The other cool thing about it is that it's not homogenized, so you actually have to shake it to get the cream and the milk together. Reminds me of the Nelsons' farm!

dead battery

So, I don't know if I'll make any New Year's Resolutions this year, (I guess if I haven't made them yet then they're not really "New Year's" resolutions anyway.) but I have decided that I want to finish my thesis. It's been kind of an ordeal. I probably wrote about this already, but for some reason after doing tons of research and practically writing a first chapter already, my concentration just kind of broke down last year. I have a very hard time focusing on anything for very long (except for good books, I think my concentration there has gotten better). Most things in life don't need intense and lengthy concentration, but writing a thesis, and really most scholarly pursuits (and mathematics examinations) require a longer attention span. But I decided, I've done so much already, really all I have to do it sit down and type up my notes in an illuminating and orderly way, but it is such a headache!

Speaking of headaches, today I got in my car with a long list of errands to run and I turned the key and realized my battery was dead. So I got someone to help me jump it and I drove off. I called Dad to ask about it and he said the battery was probably about finished. Sure enough, right after I got off the phone with him my car died at a stop light, in the front of the right turning lane! I didn't know what to do, it was pouring rain and I couldn't even figure out how to turn on my caution lights. Then a man showed up and helped me push the car off the road. I called my Emergency Road Service to tow me back to my house, but it turns out I don't have Emergency Road Service!! Oh Geico, how could you lead me on like this! So I decided to go over to this tire shop across the street to see if they could help me jump-start the battery again. Once I got in there I realized they did battery stuff as well. So I told them about my problem and put my car into their care and then just decided to walk back to my house, which was about fifteen minutes away. The nice thing was, they actually came and picked me up when my car was finished. So everything turned out well. I'm just so glad my car didn't decide to die when I was driving on pitch-black US-78 back from Athens the other night! Thank God! I can't even think what I would have done!

But the nice thing about today was I found some rhubarb raspberry preserves in my fridge this morning! Left there by my roommate who moved out a couple weeks ago. I've been looking for rhubarb jam for years and there it was, right there in my fridge. It was like Christmas all over again a week later!
